Broumov Brewery – Olivětín

Broumov Brewery – Olivětín

Broumov Brewery – Olivětín (approx. 5 minutes’ peaceful walk from the accommodation)
A small East Bohemian brewery located in Olivětín, a district of Broumov. It produces light, dark, and amber beers, both filtered and unfiltered (lagers, draught beers, and specialty brews). It also offers flavored beers – fruit, spiced, and herbal.

History and Present Day
Beer brewing dates back to 1348. The current brewery continues the tradition of the Benedictine monastery brewery founded in 1712 in Broumov. References to the monastic brewery exist from the late 17th century.

After World War II, a new brewhouse was built, and bottling began. Since 1994, a modern bottling facility has been operating, and beer is stored in stainless steel tanks. The semi-dark festive yeast beer (17%) won the Silver Crown at the Milevsko Beer Festival.

Next to the brewery is a brewery pond of approx. 0.75 ha, currently used to supply water for brewing technology. In the past, it was used in winter for ice to cool beer during production.

Brewing Ingredients
The malt is produced in the brewery’s own traditional floor malt house. The beer is brewed with Žatec (Saaz) whole cone hops and top-quality brewing yeast. Water is drawn from a 38-meter-deep artesian well on-site.

Beer Production
The brewery is known for preserving traditional brewing methods. It brews beers under the brands Olivětínský Opat, Benediktin, and Rotter – light, semi-dark, and dark. There’s also a rotating selection of beer specials and unique unfiltered varieties. Flavored beers are available too. A brewery shop on the premises sells beer and branded souvenirs.

Brewery Tours and Brewing Museum
Visitors can join guided tours including beer tasting. The tour covers the malt house, brewery cellars, bottling room, and more. The brewery also houses a brewing museum with an extensive collection of historical equipment and tools. The tour includes a stylized early-20th-century pub and the brewmaster’s office with period furnishings. A newly opened exhibition on the first floor shows a brewmaster’s household from the early 1900s (Art Nouveau period).
