A rock city between Adršpach and Teplice

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks are among the most beautiful sandstone rock cities in Europe and have been protected as a national nature reserve covering over 1,800 hectares since 1933. The rock towers here reach heights of up to 90 metres, and together with deep gorges, moss-covered ravines and calm little lakes they create a scenery that feels more like a fairy-tale landscape than a real place.

The Adršpach and Teplice Rocks are in fact two connected yet separate parts of the reserve — they are divided by the seven-kilometre Wolf Gorge (Vlčí rokle), linked by a single hiking trail. Among the best-known and most photographed rock formations is the pair known as the Lovers (Milenci), which has lent its name to countless postcards and calendars from the region.

The Rock Lake and marked circuits

The heart of the Adršpach Rocks is the Rock Lake (Skalní jezírko), where in season you can take a boat ride with a boatman — an unforgettable experience amid towering rock walls. The area is criss-crossed by several marked circuits of varying length, from an easy walk to a full-day trip connecting Adršpach with Teplice nad Metují.

Climbing and the history of discovery

The area is also one of the most sought-after climbing destinations in the Czech Republic — the first climbing ascents were made here as early as the 1920s, and the names of rock towers still used today, such as Král (King), Cimbuří (Battlement) or the aforementioned Milenci, date from that era. The fragile sandstone calls for care — climbing is only permitted when dry, without magnesium chalk, and with respect for nesting birds.

Thanks to the location of Vila Marcelka in Broumov, a trip to the rocks is a matter of less than half an hour's drive — just plan your day, pack sturdy footwear and set off.
